Kurdish residents’ protests stop Exxon Mobil work in Kurdistan Region
for their belief that it leads to eliminate agricultural land and natural pastures of the town.
Many farmers and owners of livestock in the villages expressed many observations about the company's business in the region, accusing it of causing the elimination of agricultural areas and wide natural pastures.
The director of the sub-district , Abdul Razak Baez said in a press statement received by "Shafaq News", that “ these protests came after the peasants warned Exxon Mobil for several times from damaging the farmlands and natural pastures, adding that it did not care about their warnings so they cut off the highway this morning to stop the company's work.
The director of the villagers insist that they will not allow the company to resume work until solving all the problems, saying that they had been told that the Ministry of Natural Resources in the regional government formally about these problems and are waiting for the follow-up by the ministry.
Exxon Mobil is among the most prominent companies in world's major mining field and oil exploration that have signed contracts with Kurdistan Regional Government, despite the objection of the Iraqi government, which has threatened to cancel its contracts in the southern fields.
