“ The ministry has achieved the highest level in the production of electric power amounted to (11025) MW, an increase of 7,500 megawatts of production in 2003,” the ministry’s spokesman , Musab al-Mudares said in a statement received by "Shafaq News”.

“This figure is a significant progress in the production sector, which reflected positively during these days on the rate of processing citizens with electric power, which ranged between 14 to 22 hours in all provinces of the country, despite the fact that the size of the demand for energy has risen to (16600) MW“.

“The electric power system in the coming months will witness a surge in production rates, after the intervention of four generative units at Qayyarah gas station in Nineveh province, with capacity of 500 megawatts”.

“It is hoped that energy production would reached this year to 13 thousand megawatts, which will reflect positively on the level of processing of citizens with electric power and end the crisis of power forever,” al-Mudares added.

Iraq has suffered a shortage of electricity since the beginning of 1990, and increased electricity rationing hours after 2003 in Baghdad and the provinces, because of the old stations in addition to sabotage.
