Gunmen traveling in a vehicle killed a resident in central Basra on Friday, a security source told Shafaq News.

Separately, gunmen killed a retired police officer in the al-Aitha area of al-Maymouna district in Maysan province, another security source reported.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim's cousins carried out the attack, the source noted. Authorities transferred the body to the forensic medicine department and opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident.
