Shafaq News / The President of the Region, Nechirvan Barzani said, on Friday, that he held “constructive” talks with the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, who is visiting the Kurdistan Region for the first as a PM.
“Barzani tweeted; I’m pleased to receive Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi and his delegation this morning in Erbil. We continued our constructive talks to resolve the remaining issues between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq’s federal government and discussed issues of mutual interests.”
After his meeting with the Kurdish president, Al-Kadhimi will travel to Al-Sulaymaniyah and from there to Halabja.
In his tour, Al-Kadhimi visited yesterday Ibrahim Khalil border crossing with Turkey, Duhok, and met officials.
He also visited the Qadia camp for the displaced Yazidis.
The PM’s visit to the Region started in Erbil, where he met the head of the regional government, Masrour Barzani, and the Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani and He discussed several files in Erbil, including the disputes between Baghdad and Erbil, the fight against ISIS remnants, as well as the holding of early parliamentary elections.
It’s noteworthy that, Kurdistan was among the parties that strongly supported Mustafa Al-Kadhimi's to the presidency of the federal government.
His government and the Region have been holding talks for months to resolve the outstanding disputes between Baghdad and Erbil such as the disputed areas and oil revenues.
