Shafaq News / Today, Wednesday, Basra Governorate witnessed intense security deployment in various streets of the city center, after the escalation in assassinations.

 

 The assassinations of civilian activists in Basra by unknown unveiled armed elements continued, in the middle of the day  According to  some  videos

 

 The Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, pledged to take the necessary measures for the Interior and Security Ministry to protect the security of society from the threats of "outlaws"

 

 The civilian activist, Tahseen Osama, was assassinated in the center of Basra, by unknown gunmen, and angry demonstrations followed, demanding the arrest of the guilties.  This was followed by the dismissal of the Basra Police Director and the Director of National Security there.  Other activists in Basra were also targeted by assassination attempts.

 

 A member of the Iraqi parliament and a former candidate for prime minister, Adnan Al-Zurfi, called the Anti-Terrorism Service and under the direct supervision of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to clean up Basra from the criminals.

 

 In a related development, Basra police denied reports that an activist and his fiancée were killed.  According to what was published on some social media.

 

 Basra police media said, in an explanation viewed by Shafaq News Agency, "There has been news on social media that the assassination of a young man and his fiancée took place in central Basra, and as we deny this information we call on the media and honorable citizens to take information from reliable sources and be careful in publishing."
