Weapons held by armed factions should be transferred to the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), Ammar al-Hakim, head of Iraq’s National State Forces Alliance, said on Sunday, reaffirming his support for placing all weapons under state control.

In a statement issued by his media office following a meeting in Baghdad with Joshua Harris, the US chargé d’affaires in Iraq, al-Hakim said armed factions had contributed to the fight against ISIS, with thousands of their members killed in efforts to liberate territory and restore stability.

They also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties.
