Iraqi authorities, in coordination with authorities in the Kurdistan Region, have seized more than $20 million, 60 kilograms of gold, and seven vehicles in a corruption case involving detained Oil Ministry Undersecretary Adnan al-Jumaili, an investigating judge said on Sunday.

According to the judge, statements made by al-Jumaili during questioning have widened the investigation, leading to the arrest of additional officials and new investigations into government contracts.

The judge said assets recovered in the broader case include more than $100 million in cash, some of it hidden in water bottles and inside walls or buried underground, as well as hundreds of kilograms of gold, dozens of properties and vehicles.

Al-Jumaili was arrested on May 30 in the al-Ishaqi area of Saladin province on corruption charges related to the alleged misuse of public funds at the Baiji Refinery. He was later removed as director general of the North Refineries Company on June 2.

His arrest came as part of the government's wider anti-corruption campaign, known as the Dawn Crackdown (Sawlat al-Fajr), which has led to the detention and arrest of more than 200 officials, lawmakers and businessmen over alleged corruption.
