Shafaq news/ World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Monday the world must be better prepared for the next pandemic, as he called on countries to invest in public health.

“This will not be the last pandemic,” Tedros told a news briefing in Geneva. “History teaches us that outbreaks and pandemics are a fact of life. But when the next pandemic comes, the world must be ready – more ready than it was this time.”

Since January 2020, the world has been facing a severe crisis caused by the outbreak of "COVID-19", which began to spread from the Chinese city of Wuhan and led to huge losses in many sectors of the economy, especially transport, tourism and entertainment, the collapse of global stock exchanges and the acceleration of the decline in markets.

The World Health Organization classified this outbreak as a pandemic on March 11, and the virus has so far infected about 27 million people around the world, killing about 890,000 of them.
