Shafaq News - Aleppo

A senior Iraqi commander affiliated with ISIS was killed on Friday in a joint raid led by the US-led Global Coalition in the city of al-Bab, eastern Aleppo province, according to security sources.

The sources told the security forces surrounded the area, sealed all entry roads, and deployed reconnaissance drones and aircraft. Before launching the raid, the units used loudspeakers to urge the suspects to surrender.

The clash resulted in the deaths of four suspected ISIS operatives, including the Iraqi national, described as a senior field commander within the group.

US Central Command later confirmed the operation. Iraq’s Counter-Terrorism Service also stated that the raid was based on intelligence provided by Iraqi security agencies.

The city of al-Bab, near the Turkish border, has seen a resurgence of ISIS activity in recent months despite being under the control of Turkish-backed factions.
