UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher held talks in Port Sudan on Tuesday with army leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to secure access for life-saving aid across Sudan, where millions face famine and displacement.

In a video released by Sudan News Agency, Fletcher described the discussions as “constructive,” emphasizing the need to deliver assistance “in a neutral, independent and impartial way” to civilians trapped by the conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Burhan affirmed Sudan’s readiness to cooperate with the United Nations and its agencies, according to Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council.

The UN migration agency said nearly 39,000 people have fled Kordofan since El-Fasher fell, while around 90,000 remain trapped in famine-like conditions.

Although the RSF said it accepted a truce proposal backed by the United States, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Egypt, clashes have persisted.
