Shafaq News/ The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, welcomed the Prime Minister's proposal regarding the date of early elections.
Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, announced last Friday that the parliamentary elections will be held on June 6, 2021, pledging to provide international supervision over the electoral process.
Al-Kadhimi's announcement of the date of the elections was welcomed by international support and pledge to work on its success. However, the political blocs are still divided over the date and the mechanisms of the elections.
In a statement, the President of the Republic affirmed that calling for early, free and fair elections is considered a main requirement of the desired political reform, which is a national entitlement of the popular movement.
The President highlighted the importance of serious work to achieve this government commitment as quickly as possible, stressing that the political crisis in Iraq cannot be procrastinated and addressing the suffering that our people are going through requires a courageous national decision stemming from the entitlement of the people and their right to choose an independent and coherent national government through free and fair elections.
The President of the Republic pointed out that effective solutions stem from the citizens and their independent decision away from fraud and influencing their electoral choice, to push the country towards the desired structural reform.
The President called on the council of Representatives to complete the legislation of the electoral law as soon as possible, submit it to the Presidency of the Republic for approval and implementation and expedite the approval of the amendment to the Federal Supreme Court Law.
