Shafaq News / The "Sadikoun" parliamentary bloc, which represents "Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq" movement in the Iraqi Parliament, commented today, Tuesday, on assigning a special force to protect the Green Zone, the US embassy and diplomatic missions.

The representative of the bloc, Muhammad al-Baldawi, told Shafaq News agency, "such security and military decisions are among the tasks of the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, and we as political forces do not interfere with them, but at the same time we reject the presence of any foreign force in the Green Zone under the pretext of protecting embassies and diplomatic missions, as this is a violation of the sovereignty of Iraq."

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, issued on Tuesday an order assigning Major General Hamed Al-Zuhairi to the tasks the Special Force's command.

A security source told Shafaq News Agency that the special team will be responsible for protecting the Green Zone, including the Presidential Palace, strategic governmental facilities, the US embassy building, in addition to foreign embassies and diplomatic missions.
