Al-Anbar Provincial Council on Sunday elected Hamid Al-Alwani as chairman during a voting session held within its fourth electoral term, succeeding acting head Akram Al-Mahlawi.
Al-Alwani secured the required absolute majority, receiving at least nine votes from the 16-seat council, while five ballots were left blank.
