Iraq is outside the ongoing regional conflict and does not wish to become involved despite being among the countries most affected by its security, economic, and political repercussions, the country’s Foreign Ministry said on Thursday, following a warning by the US Embassy over potential security concerns.
In a press statement, the ministry noted that “certain parties or individuals may attempt, contrary to the state’s direction, to take unilateral actions or exploit their positions or official capacities to carry out activities that do not represent official policy,” labeling these acts as unlawful.
“Furthermore, incidents of abuse of authority by individuals in various countries around the world do not justify generalizations or the attribution of responsibility to governments or institutions for individual actions,” the ministry said.
The government confirmed it is intensifying efforts to enhance security measures, protect diplomatic missions and foreign interests, and safeguard citizens, while continuing to ensure Iraqi territory is not used as a launchpad for hostile activities.
