Iraq’s Military Intelligence Directorate on Friday reaffirmed restrictions on media appearances by its personnel, directing them to raise complaints through the chain of command instead.
The Directorate’s chief, Staff Lieutenant General Hassan Jawad Al-Silawi, said military orders prohibit personnel from appearing in the media, arguing that such appearances harm the reputation of the armed forces. A directive from the Iraqi Army leadership also requires commanders, directors, intelligence officers, and media officers to meet regularly with troops and address complaints through established legal procedures.
