Iraq’s Communications Ministry has not signed a direct agreement with US satellite internet provider Starlink despite the service’s recent launch in the country, Minister Mustafa Jabbar Sanad clarified on Saturday.

Speaking at the eighth Baghdad International Dialogue Conference, Sanad said Earthlink and other companies remain the ministry’s current partners, with Starlink potentially joining them within two years.

Iraq licensed Starlink on July 17 and launched the service on July 29. Residential plans start at 131,500 Iraqi dinars (about $100) per month, with speeds of up to 100 Mbps.
