Shafaq News / Large areas of the Zagros forests in Ilam Province, Iran, are at risk of deforestation and desertification due to recent droughts, outbreaks of diseases, and unjust logging activities.

These factors threaten the environment, human life, and other living organisms. Zagros forests constitute 32% of Ilam Province's area, which is approximately 2.6 million hectares, with 90% of these forests covered by oak trees, some of which are centuries old.
