Shafaq News / Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed, on Tuesday, the need to enhance defense and military cooperation between Tehran and Moscow.
Rouhani stressed during his meeting with Russian Minister of foreign affairs Sergey Lavrov in Tehran today, "the need to continue efforts to preserve and revive the nuclear agreement as a multi-faceted consensus and a model for solving problems through negotiation and diplomacy", noting, "cooperation between Tehran and Moscow is very influential."
Rouhani expressed his country's desire to develop regional cooperation to bring peace and security to the region as a strategic step to confront American unilateralism and interference in the region, adding, "America and the world have realized the failure of the policy of maximum pressure, and that lifting sanctions is the only way for Washington to return to the nuclear agreement."
The Iranian President stressed, "the need to enhance cooperation with Russia and exchange views to resolve regional crises, including Syria and Yemen", emphasizing, "the importance of strengthening economic relations and expediting the implementation of joint economic agreements and projects in the oil, energy, transportation and nuclear fields."
For his part, Lavrov said, according to a statement by the Iranian presidency, that there are no obstacles to strengthening cooperation between Moscow and Tehran in all fields, pointing out that the two countries have common goals.
Moreover, Lavrov stressed that the only solution to revive the nuclear deal is Washington's return to the agreement without restrictions or conditions, the implementation of its provisions, as well as the implementation of Resolution 2231.
Earlier in the day, Lavrov held talks with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, where they signed an agreement on establishing cultural centers between the two
