British Prime Minister Keir Starmer ruled out on Wednesday any UK involvement in the escalating conflict in the Middle East, noting the war carries global consequences.
Speaking at a press conference, Starmer pointed to London’s efforts to ease tensions and restore stability in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes, while seeking to break what he described as a cycle shaped by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iran.
He also addressed recent remarks by US President Donald Trump on scaling back US commitment to NATO, describing the alliance as the “most effective in the world,” further underlining its role in safeguarding Britain’s security for decades.
On Tuesday, Trump urged countries that did not assist in US-Israeli strikes on Iran to purchase American oil and navigate the Strait of Hormuz. Addressing countries facing fuel constraints due to the waterway, including the United Kingdom, he remarked, “You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the USA won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us,” adding, “The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!”
