Canada on Thursday urged citizens to avoid all travel to Iraq as it updated travel guidance for the Middle East amid continued regional security concerns.
The government placed Iraq at its highest travel-risk level, alongside Iran, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria and Yemen.
Canada separately advised against non-essential travel to Bahrain, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Ottawa said the regional security situation remained volatile following recent military activity and warned that conditions could deteriorate quickly, potentially limiting Canadians’ ability to leave and the government’s capacity to provide assistance.
