Iraq's Federal Integrity Commission said on Saturday it arrested three employees at an electricity office in Mosul for demanding a bribe from a resident to cancel a purported fine.

The three, who work at the electricity office for western Mosul, told the man he had been fined for illegally tapping into the national grid, then demanded money from him in exchange for canceling it, the commission said. A team from the Nineveh Investigation Directorate arrested the suspects after the resident filed a complaint.

The commission said it prepared an official arrest report, and the suspects appeared before the Nineveh investigative judge specializing in integrity cases, who ordered their detention under Resolution No. 160 of 1983, as amended.

In August, the commission arrested a Mosul Municipality employee and his two sons for extorting potential bidders in a public auction.
