Iraqi security forces in Maysan have arrested 28 people and dismantled eight drug distribution networks in a series of operations across the southern province in recent days, the Directorate of Narcotics Affairs said on Friday.
The suspects included a foreign national and a “highly dangerous” Iraqi wanted in several other cases. Authorities also seized 7 kilograms of narcotics.
Earlier today, Iraq’s Al-Anbar Directorate for Narcotics Affairs broke up a 50-member drug trafficking network, seizing more than 2.5 kg of crystal methamphetamine and about 15,000 narcotic pills.
Since 2023, Baghdad has confiscated 16.8 tons of narcotics, secured 380 death sentences and 150 life sentences, and issued 190 international arrest warrants in drug-related cases. Baghdad has also established 16 rehabilitation centers for drug users, providing treatment to about 9,500 people, with more than 8,000 completing their rehabilitation programs.
