Shafaq News – Kirkuk

Iraq’s First Special Forces Division destroyed ISIS hideouts in Wadi al-Shay (Al-Shay Valley), south of Kirkuk, a source reported to Shafaq News on Tuesday.

The operation, carried out by Special Forces Brigade 63, targeted remnants of the group and dismantled several sites used for shelter and movement.

The source described the mission as part of continued efforts “to strengthen security and stability in southern Kirkuk.”

Wadi al-Shay, one of Iraq’s most rugged areas, has long served as a transit route between Kirkuk and Saladin provinces. Its difficult terrain and network of caves have made it a refuge for ISIS remnants.

In recent years, the valley has been the focus of dozens of operations. The Iraqi Ministry of Defence stated that earlier missions dismantled at least six ISIS hideouts and killed 23 militants, yet the area remains “a persistent stronghold for ISIS.”
