Iraq has recorded a “clear decline” in crime rates nationwide, with Baghdad leading the provinces in improved security indicators, Interior Ministry spokesperson Maj. Gen. Muqdad Miri said on Saturday.
Earlier ministry data showed Baghdad’s al-Karkh district recorded the sharpest decline in crime, at 51%, while Basra registered the highest number of criminal cases.
Baghdad recorded particularly strong security indicators, he said, citing efforts by Interior Ministry forces to “prevent crimes, quickly identify perpetrators and pursue suspects.”
Miri attributed the decline to preventive security measures, intelligence operations, a stronger security presence and efforts to track down wanted suspects and other offenders.
