A drone strike targeted a headquarters belonging to the 16th Brigade of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) south of Kirkuk on Monday evening, a local source said.
The source told Shafaq News that the attack hit a site located between the town of Bashir and the subdistrict of Taza Khurmatu, about 30 kilometers south of Kirkuk. The strike resulted in limited material damage but no reported injuries.
Security forces sealed off the area and opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the attack and those responsible. No official statement had been issued at the time of publication.
Earlier on Monday, Iraq’s Security Media Cell said a PMF position affiliated with the 45th Brigade came under two airstrikes in the Akashat area within the al-Jazeera Operations sector in western Iraq. The PMF later said that the strike left four members dead and 11 others wounded.
In a separate incident the same day, the PMF reported that one of its members was killed and another injured in an airstrike targeting Jurf al-Sakhr district in Babil province.
