Iraq’s Al-Anbar Directorate for Narcotics Affairs on Friday dismantled a 50-member drug trafficking network, seizing more than 2.5 kg of crystal methamphetamine and about 15,000 narcotic pills, the Iraqi National Security Service (INSS) said.
The investigation also uncovered a facility used to manufacture narcotic pills. Security forces took control of the site and its contents, disrupting the network’s operations and preventing additional drugs from reaching dealers and users.
The operation came hours after authorities broke up another 19-member drug trafficking network in Al-Anbar province, including two women. The operation yielded 408,000 Captagon pills weighing about 68 kg.
Since 2023, Baghdad has confiscated 16.8 tons of narcotics, secured 380 death sentences and 150 life sentences, and issued 190 international arrest warrants in drug-related cases. It has also established 16 rehabilitation centers for drug users, providing treatment to about 9,500 people, with more than 8,000 completing their rehabilitation programs.
