A senior ISIS figure, Salah Nouman Abd Nayef al-Jubouri, was killed in northwestern Syria during a joint operation supported by Iraqi intelligence, the US-led Global Coalition, and Syrian security forces, a security source told Shafaq News on Wednesday.

Al-Jubouri was regarded as the fifth most important ISIS leader in Syria. According to the source, the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service provided “key and essential information on his whereabouts,” which enabled Coalition forces and their Syrian partners to launch an airborne raid that ended with his death.

Syrian media earlier reported that al-Jubouri was killed in the town of Atmeh, in the Idlib countryside near the border with Turkiye.

The operation began at dawn, when Coalition units surrounded residential areas and engaged an armed individual believed to be affiliated with ISIS. He was later killed in a targeted airstrike. Syrian authorities also detained several French women suspected of being the wives of the slain leader.

A similar operation was carried out on June 11, when Coalition troops conducted an airdrop with Syrian partners in Deir ez-Zor province, targeting a group of ISIS militants in the western countryside.
