Iran’s shift from a defensive to an offensive military doctrine does not mean Tehran has adopted preemptive strikes, army spokesman Brig. Gen. Mohammad Akraminia said on Saturday.

Speaking to state-run media, Akraminia clarified that Iran would respond to any attack immediately and on a broader scale after the country rebuilt military systems damaged during the conflict and introduced new systems into service. He said the army is seeking greater strike capability if an adversary “miscalculates” again.

On August 17, a senior Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran had adopted a “fully offensive” posture and could use military force to break the US naval blockade if diplomacy failed.

US President Donald Trump said earlier today that Iran was eager to reach an agreement with Washington but was not ready for what he called the “right deal.” He also claimed the United States had “total control” around the Strait of Hormuz, while Akraminia stated that the waterway had gained decisive geopolitical importance in advancing Tehran’s foreign-policy objectives.
