The US State Department on Wednesday condemned what it described as “indiscriminate and cowardly terrorist acts” by Iran and “its Iraqi terrorist proxies” targeting the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

In a statement to Shafaq News, a spokesperson cited a recent drone strike in Khabat district, west of Erbil, which injured three children and damaged civilian property, stating, “These despicable actions are a direct assault on Iraq’s sovereignty, stability, and unity.”

The remarks come amid growing international concern over repeated incidents affecting civilian areas and critical infrastructure in Erbil. A recent report by the US-based Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT) documented 474 cases in the Kurdistan Region within a single month, attributing them to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and allied groups, with civilian harm recorded.
