Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani is ready to support Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi’s government as it seeks to address the issue of uncontrolled weapons held by armed groups, the Kurdistan Region Presidency said on Monday.
Presidency spokesperson Dilshad Shahab told a press conference that, alongside the weapons issue, Iraq faces financial pressures related to oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz following the outbreak of war between Iran on one side and the United States and Israel on the other.
He stressed that the Kurdistan Region continues to support federal government efforts to “pursue reform and resolve the country’s problems,” citing Barzani’s participation in a recent Baghdad meeting of the State Administration Coalition, which brings together political forces participating in Iraq’s political process, as evidence of that commitment.
