Shafaq News/ The Presidency of the Kurdistan Region announced, on Tuesday, that the first session of the new parliament will be held on December 2nd.
Dilshad Shahab, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Presidency, stated in a press conference, "The Presidency has invited the elected members of parliament to convene the first session on December 2nd at 11:00 AM."
"The decision will take effect immediately upon issuance and be published in the Kurdistan Official Gazette,” he pointed out.
Shahab also addressed the government formation issue. "If there is a genuine will, a new government can be formed," he said, noting “positive signs” for it.
"We will make efforts to bridge the gaps between the political parties."
On Sunday, the Region received an official letter confirming the certification of the results of its sixth parliamentary elections, which took place on October 20, 2024, by the Independent High Electoral Commission.
The elections were held across four provinces—Erbil, Al-Sulaymaniyah, Duhok, and Halabja—with the final results announced on October 30.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) emerged as the largest party, securing 39 seats out of 100 with 809,197 votes. The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) followed with 23 seats from 408,141 votes.

- Kurdistan Islamic Union: 7 seats
- Halwest Movement: 4 seats
- Kurdistan Justice Group: 3 seats
- People's Front: 2 seats
- Change Movement (Gorran): 1 seat
- Kurdistan Regional Alliance: 1 seat
- Component Quota: 5 seats
