Gas deliveries from the Khor Mor field resumed, restoring electricity generation across the Kurdistan Region, the Ministry of Electricity announced on Sunday.
In a statement, the ministry said that gas transmission restarted at 2:00 a.m. local time, enabling power stations to gradually return to service.
Electricity Minister Kamal Mohammad Salih Khalil, who also serves as acting Minister of Natural Resources, told reporters that output had reached 2,000 megawatts and would rise to 4,000–4,500 megawatts in the next phase, with full stabilization anticipated within five hours.
The Khor Mor field in Chamchamal district, Al-Sulaymaniyah Province, was struck by drones late Wednesday, igniting a large fire and causing extensive damage but no casualties. The attack halted gas flows to power stations, triggering widespread outages across the Kurdistan Region and parts of Iraq.
Eco Iraq Observatory estimated the shutdown cost the Kurdistan Region more than $7.41 million in daily losses.
