Shafaq News/ Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Al-Sulaymaniyah on Thursday as part of his visit to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

The visit to Al-Sulaymaniyah follows his tour in Erbil, where he met with Kurdistan Region Kurdish Leader Masoud Barzani, President Nechirvan Barzani, and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.

According to Shafaq News correspondent, the reception for the Iranian President at Al-Sulaymaniyah International Airport was marked by high-profile attendees. Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani, alongside Qubad Talabani, the Deputy Prime Minister who had participated in earlier meetings in Erbil, the Governor of Al-Sulaymaniyah, and other prominent political and government figures, were on hand to welcome the President.

Following the reception, the Iranian delegation is scheduled to visit the Debashan area to pay their respects at the grave of the late Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.

The visit's agenda includes a planned bilateral meeting between Pezeshkian and Bafel Talabani at the latter's residence in Debashan, to discuss security issues related to the activities of certain Iranian opposition groups within the Region along with economic, trade, and cultural initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation between both sides.

Earlier, the Iranian president held a series of discussions in Baghdad, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing regional issues of mutual interest.

Al-Sulaymaniyah is the main city under the control of the PUK.

Iran and Iraqi Kurdistan share over 500 kilometers of borders, with over 150 km with Al-Sulaymaniyah.
