Shafaq News / Al-Fateh leader, Deputy Fadel Al-Fatlawi revealed on Thursday, the details of the meeting of the Shiite political forces, which took place yesterday evening, regarding the discussion of a candidate to head the new government.

"The Shiite political forces have agreed to choose an independent political prime minister for forming an interim transitional government to prepare for early elections," al-Fatlawi told Shafaq News.

He stated that "during the meeting, names were presented (Ali Shukri, Muhammad Shi'a Al-Sudani, Mustafa Al-Kathemi, Asaad Al-Eidani), but no agreement was reached on one of those names, and we expect that the upcoming meetings will witness the introduction of new names, for the purpose of agreement and approval."

In a related context sources close to the source of the Iraqi decision revealed on Thursday, an upcoming meeting that brings together the leader of Fatah alliance with the head of the intelligence service, Mustafa Al-Kathemi whose name has been strongly proposed to head the new government.

The sources told Shafaq News, "The upcoming meeting came after a meeting that included al-Amiri with the head of Wisdom Movement, Ammar al-Hakim, to present al-Kathimi as a candidate for the position of Prime Minister as a substitute for Muhammad Allawi," who was assigned by the President of the Republic but apologized after two parliamentary sessions in which he did not gain confidence to his government.

The sources added that Mustafa Al-Kathemi had already presented his name, but his conflict with senior personalities earlier prevented from assigning him, adding that the meeting comes after the Kurdish and Sunni blocs rejected Muhammad Allawi and other figures, including Asaad Al-Aidani, who were supposed to hand over the file of the prime minister several weeks ago.

A leader in Al-Fatah coalition, led by Hadi al-Amiri has previously revealed the most prominent candidate to succeed former Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi to form the next government.

"The closest name to take over to head the new Iraqi government is the head of the Iraqi intelligence service, Mustafa al-Kathemi especially since there are political parties who tried to choose him before Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, but the consensus got Allawi at the time," said coalition deputy Hanin Qaddo, to Shafaq News.

Qaddo said that "these parties now want to assign Al-Kathemi, and this matter may be resolved in the next few days, as this matter is left to the dialogues and negotiations, which are taking place right now."

On Sunday, Allawi announced that he would step down from forming a government, a day before the constitutional deadline for his government to pass in parliament.

Allawi had faced widespread objections by the Kurdish blocs and prominent Sunni political forces, headed by the Iraqi Forces Alliance, as well as the State of Law coalition, in addition to the demonstrators who are calling for the nomination of an independent personality far from abroad dependency.
