Shafaq News / A security source in Diyala province stated on Thursday, that three mortar shells had landed near Baquba city, the center of the governorate.

“The shells landed at the outskirts of "Zahra" village affiliated to Al-Abara sub-district, 15 km northeast of Baquba without causing casualties,” the source told Shafaq News agency.

He added that the police forces launched an inspection campaign to search for sources of mortar fire.

The outskirts areas Al-Abara sub-district north-east of Baquba are witnessing continuous attacks and security incidents over the past years as a result of its rugged geographical nature and vast area, which turned into hidden dens of Islamic State (ISIS) elements.
