Al-Maliki said at a press conference in Baghdad, attended by "Shafaq News", that “ the government on decided Tuesday to declare a state of maximum alert in the country.

Maliki called the Iraqi parliament to declare a state of emergency in Iraq, on the background of the existing security events.

Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has acknowledged on Tuesday, the fall of the Mosul city, the center of Nineveh province by "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant", known for short as "Daash" or “ISIL” , announcing the formation of a government crisis cell to take the necessary measures to restore areas controlled by armed groups in Iraq.

 “ Iraq is in a state of emergency, as efforts must be concerted to face the challenges after terrorist groups were able to control the important regions in Nineveh, adding that the council decided to declare a state of maximum alert, and mobilize all energies to face dangerous challenges,” Maliki added.

“The Council of Ministers urges citizens to take up arms and confront the armed groups, mobilized all the political, financial and popular capabilities to restore all areas dominated by terrorists”.

Maliki went on saying that the council of Ministers called the international organizations , the United Nations and the European Union to support its stance in the fight against terrorism and called the neighboring countries to cooperate with Iraq and prevent the infiltration of armed groups and cut funding them”.

 Maliki concluded the statement by saying that the Council of Ministers decided to restructure the security forces and draw plans to end the presence of militants in Nineveh province and has provided all the powers of the Council for mobilization and the formation of a special crisis cell to follow the mobilization and armament processes to take the necessary measures.
