Shafaq News/ The Minister of Water Resources, Mahdi Rachid, highlighted his Ministry's endeavors to complete al-Badaa canal in Dhi Qar, south of Iraq.

In a joint press conference with Dhi Qar's governor, Ahmed al-Khafaji, Rachid said, "my visit comes per the instructions on PM Mustafa al-Kadhimi."

The Minister said, "The Ministry acknowledges the governorate's sufferings, most importantly Shatt al Ibrahim issue that has been stalled for many years."

"The Ministry is preparing for laying the foundation stone of al-Badaa canal project that will serve Dhi Qar and Basra," he added, "it will be the biggest project since 2003."

"Specialized Committees discussed flooring Shatt al Ibrahim in Sayyid Dakhil district, eastern Nasiriyah, with the residents. The problem is not momentous. We issued a set of instructions to address this issue."

"The Ministry has installed many pumps recently to bolster the agricultural season. However, these solutions are immediate. We aspire to sustainable solutions."

"We also instructed granting permits for investments on the rivers banks in the governorate, cleansing rivers, and delivering water to the furthest point in Dhi Qar."
