Shafaq News/ On Monday, Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, reaffirmed Iraq's “full” solidarity with Lebanon against “the ongoing Zionist aggression.”

Al-Sudani’s media office said in a statement that the Prime Minister met with his Lebanese counterpart, Najib Mikati, on the sidelines of the summit, hosted by Saudi Arabia, to discuss “the aggression against Gaza and Lebanon.”

The meeting reviewed the latest developments in the ongoing Israeli war in Lebanon and Gaza, and international and regional efforts to stop the war and prevent the expansion of the conflict in the Middle East.

The Iraqi PM reiterated Iraq’s firm stance with Lebanon during this critical time, and “expressing support for all efforts to safeguard Lebanon’s people and sovereignty in this critical time.” He also reiterated “Iraq’s ongoing commitment to send relief materials and aid to bolster the resilience of the Lebanese people.”

Prime Minister Mikati expressed gratitude for Iraq’s support and emphasized the importance of intensified Arab and Islamic cooperation to halt the aggression against Lebanon and Gaza.

In late October, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the summit following the first meeting of an international coalition formed to support the two-state solution for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The summit aims to "discuss ongoing Israeli aggression against Palestinian and Lebanese territories and regional developments," according to the Saudi Press Agency. It follows the joint Arab-Islamic Summit held in Riyadh on November 11, 2023, initiated by the Arab League (Cairo) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (Jeddah).
