Shafaq News / A security source reported on Wednesday that an officer was killed in a clash with a drug gang in the southern governorate of Maysan, bordering Iran.
The source told Shafaq News agency that Captain Montazar Al-Moussawi, an officer in the Rapid Response Forces, was killed, while three security personnel were wounded.
The operation coincides with the visit of the Minister of the Interior Othman Al-Ghanimi to Maysan Governorate, to follow up on the ongoing operation aiming to limit armed conflicts and confine fugitive weapons.
Drug trafficking has increased in Maysan Governorate since 2008, and police files indicate that smugglers use motorcycles to avoid the checkpoints spread on the main roads, carrying drugs that they are smuggling from Iran.
