Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Prime Minister has met today Jeanine Antoinette Hennis-Plasschaert, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq. During the meeting, they discussed the cooperation between Iraq and the UN, the support of the stability, the snap election, and its preparation.
Al-Kadhimi affirmed the importance of the UN support for the Independent High Electoral Commission. Pointing out that the government is making sure that the election will be free and fair, and meet with international standards.
According to a statement of his office, al-Kadhimi said that “The government will see to provide logistic, and technical support to the snap election, and will ensure safety and finance”. It also stated that they spoke about the pacific demonstrations as a legitimate right, and al-Kadhimi explained that “The government effort is to protect the protestors, and to satisfy the rightful demands of people”, showing that the government’s determination to accomplish the investigation in this matter.
The meeting covered other issues like the security situation and the role of UN Delegation in Kirkuk, and Sinjar in Nineveh governorate and other areas.
