Some local sources in the district of the city talked about news spread among residents about some oil companies operating in the oil fields there to deport some residents of the district who live near oil wells.

The Director General of SOC, Thiya Jafar said in a statement reported for “Shafaq News” that “the news that talks about the deportation of people in the district of the city, 100 km north of Basra is “just lies”.

Jaafar described the news as “nonsense “, accusing the promoters and those who stand behind it of having “ private purposes and suspicious targets”.

The district of the city is located near the giant West Qurna field being developed by the two companies Lukoil , Russian and U.S. Exxon Mobil .

The residents of the district protested several times demanding to compensate them for their agricultural lands located within the oil fields.
