The head of the local council of Khanaqin , Samir Mohammed Noor said in an interview with "Shafaq News", that “ the Federal Ministry of Oil has cut petroleum products, especially gasoline form Khanaqin what caused the fuel crisis that is currently plaguing the city”.

He added that the administration has decided to raise the prices of  electricity from private  generators from three thousand to five thousand dinars due to the scarcity of fuel.

He noted that the prices of petroleum products rose in a way that raised the resentment of the population, calling to expel citizens from political crises and economic problems between Baghdad and Kurdistan Regional Government.

Khanaqin is considered of the disputed areas between Baghdad and Erbil, of a majority of Kurds as well as Turkmen and Arab minority .
