“The trade exchanges between Iraq and the United States during the first quarter of 2013 increased to 23% compared with 2012, reaching more than 4.5 billion dollars of goods and commodities only,” The commercial attaché at the Iraqi in the United States, Nofal Abu al-Shon Hassan said in a statement reported for “Shafaq News”.

Abu al-Shon said during a meeting held by the US-Arab Chamber of Commerce in Houston city in Texas State in collaboration with the American Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Trade that “the volume of bilateral trade has witnessed a big increase in recent years”.

“It rose from 13.8 billion$  in 2010 to more than 19 billion$  in 2011, then increased in 2012 to reach 21.3 billion$  ,” he added.

Activity of U.S. companies operating in the sectors of energy, defense, automotive, information technology and communications in Iraq has increased since 10 years, specifically after the fall of the former regime.

The two sides are linked to the long-term strategy Convention in various sectors, especially economic and military; it was signed in 2008 and paved the way for the withdrawal of U.S. forces in late 2011.
