Hawrami said at a hosting meeting called by Kurdistan Parliament today to discuss the fuel crisis in the cities of the region, followed by “Shafaq News", that the price of gasoline in the region is cheaper than some of the neighboring countries, noting that part of the production goes to the black market”.

Hawrami added that because of the lack of the possibility of  KRG   for the construction of oil refineries , the ministry entrusted the construction mission to the private sector companies and is now in the process of completion of construction.

He said of the total local production is distributed about 2.5 million liters at the stations, while the rest is sent to the Ministry of Peshmarga and other government departments.

Hawrami said that even if “ISIL” controlled the areas adjacent to Kurdistan, the Iraqi government would have cut the region's share of hydrocarbons.

On the mechanism adopted for the distribution of fuel to 600 000 cars from filling stations by fuel card system "coupons," the private car receives 25 liters of gasoline per week while taxis 50 liters are receiving for the same period.

He stressed that his ministry has distributed about 200 000 fuel cards which represent more than 33% of the total vehicles, noting that the price of gasoline is distributed by government-backed price which is 500 dinars per liter.

He added that the true cost of a liter of gasoline is 1250 dinars a price that has been approved for the sale of gasoline in the commercial stations.

He explained that government support for the price of gasoline costs the ministry more than 3 billion and 200 million dollars annually in costs of government support for the subjects gasoline and white oil about 950 million dollars annually and a total government support for natural gas, 550 million dollars, all done by his ministry.

For the support cost process for the electricity sector in the region, Hawrami said that this cost his ministry about three billion and 300 million dollars a year, pointing out that the total of what his ministry bear is to support gasoline and fuel for all sectors by more than five billion dollars, an amount equal to half the region's share of the Iraqi budget public if paid.
