Shafaq News / Global GFP ranking revealed today, Saturday, that Iraq’s external debt amounts to 73 billion $, while noting that the United States of America came first in the world with the most indebted countries in the world.
According to the statistics published by the Foundation and seen by Shafaq news agency, during 2020, the most indebted countries in the world are as follows:
The United States ranks first at 17 trillion and 910 billion dollars
The UK ranks second at 8 trillion and 126 billion dollars.
France comes in third place with a debt of 5 trillion and 360 billion dollars.
As for the Arab countries
The UAE comes at the forefront of the most indebted Arab countries, at 237 billion $
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is in second place with 205 billion and 100 million dollars.
Qatar is ranked third with 167 billion and 800 million dollars
Egypt ranked fourth with debts of 77 billion and 470 million dollars.
Iraq ranked fifth with a debt of 73 billion and 20 million dollars.
The Governor of the Central Bank, Ali Al-Alaq, revealed, in March 2020 that the foreign debts of Iraq are about 23 billion dollars, while the internal debts amounted to about 40 trillion Iraqi dinars
Iraq during the last period, especially with the decline in oil prices in 2014, borrowed from international financial organizations and many countries to reduce the deficit in its financial budget.
