Shafaq News / An Iraqi official said, on Friday, that the authorities decided to resume the rail’ traffic, after a 6-month suspension.
Anadolu Agency quoted The General director for Iraqi Railways, Taleb al-Husseini,, "As of Saturday, the trains traffic from Baghdad to Basra will be resumed after 6-month of closure to prevent the outbreak of Coronavirus."
The Baghdad-Basra railway transports passengers between the governorates of Baghdad, Babel, Al-Diwaniyah, Muthanna and Dhi Qar, to Basra.
On Thursday, the Iraqi government announced that citizens would be allowed to move among governorates.
And recently, several governorates witnessed protests against the restrictions, which negatively affected the economy, especially the partial and total curfew in cities.
Last Monday, the government decided to resume trade exchange with neighboring countries through the land border crossings, starting September 12, after a complete and partial closure since March as part of measures to combat the pandemic.
It’s noteworthy that, As of Thursday evening, the total number of Coronavirus in Iraq had reached 278,418 cased, including 7 814 deaths, and 213,817 recoveries.
